Dorchester 4 Board of Trustees names Three Finalists for Superintendent

Dorchester School District 4 Board of Trustees voted with a vote of 4 in favor and one abstention to select Jeffrey Beckwith, Gregory Harrison, Ed.D; and Glenda Gibson Levine, Ed.D; as finalists in their search for Superintendent.

Jeffrey Beckwith, M.Ed. has served as the director and executive director of Elementary Schools in Charleston County School District since 2020. He previously served as an elementary principal at North Charleston and Williams Memorial elementary schools. He has also served as an assistant principal in Cairo, New York and at Woodland High School. Beckwith was a K-5 physical education teacher at Williams Memorial Elementary.  Beckwith earned a bachelor’s degree from Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C. and his master’s in elementary school administration and supervision from Charleston Southern University.

Greg Harrison, Ed.D. has served as the executive director of Special Programs in Dorchester School District Two since 2020. He previously served as executive director of Secondary Education in Dorchester Two. He served as a principal at Fort Dorchester and Darlington high schools. Additionally, he served as an assistant principal at Fort Dorchester and Woodland high schools and taught social studies at Stratford High School. Harrison earned a bachelor’s degree from Coastal Carolina University, a M.A.T. from Charleston Southern University, a master’s degree in education administration from The Citadel and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from North Central University.

Glenda Gibson Levine, Ed.D. currently serves as the chief diversity officer for Berkeley County School District. She previously served as the district's chief human resource officer and director of Secondary Education. She has also served as an assistant principal at Stratford High School and principal of Hanahan High School. Additionally, she worked as a district-level teacher evaluator and was also a classroom teacher at Stratford High and Goose Creek High. Dr. Levine also served as a classroom teacher in Williamsburg County School District. She earned a bachelor’s degree in the teaching of high school mathematics from Benedict College, a master’s degree in educational administration from Charleston Southern University, an education specialist's degree in educational leadership from The Citadel and a doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Phyllis Hughes, chair of the DSD4 board said the finalists will meet with the community and staff members on Thursday, March 23 at a reception and the final interviews with the board will take place on March 28. 

“We are pleased with all of the finalists, and we look forward to the next phase in the search process,” said Hughes.
