On Friday, April 25 at 10:00 AM, Williams Memorial Elementary School (WMES) celebrated its students with a vibrant SCREADY Spirit Car Parade, rallying support for 3rd–5th graders preparing for the upcoming SCREADY assessments. The event highlighted the unity between the school and the broader community, emphasizing encouragement and academic excellence.
Leading the parade as Grand Marshal was newly elected Dorchester County Councilman Peter Smith Jr., who was officially sworn in on April 6 after winning the District 1 seat in a special election . Councilman Smith, a lifelong Dorchester County resident and Navy veteran, brought enthusiasm and pride to the event, waving to students and sharing words of encouragement.
The parade featured a procession of decorated vehicles from WMES staff and community members, including the St. George Fire Department and the Town of St. George Police Department. Their participation, complete with flashing lights and sirens, added excitement and underscored the community's support for the students.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, 1st and 2nd grade students joined the parade, marching alongside their peers and cheering them on. The entire school community lined the sidewalks,
WMES encourages families to continue supporting their children by ensuring they get adequate rest, eat a nutritious breakfast, and arrive at school on time during testing week.
With the combined efforts of educators, families, and community leaders, WMES is confident in our students' success on the SCREADY assessments.
