Each summer, some of South Carolina’s most promising young leaders gather for a transformative week of civic engagement, leadership training, and hands-on government experience through the Palmetto Boys State and Palmetto Girls State programs. Sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary, these highly respected programs are designed to prepare rising high school seniors for future leadership roles in their schools, communities, and beyond.
Palmetto Boys State invites young men from across the state to form a mock government, run for office, pass legislation, and participate in discussions on public service and civic duty. Similarly, Palmetto Girls State offers young women the same opportunity to learn and lead through a structured, immersive experience. Both programs are hosted on college campuses and include appearances by state leaders, veterans, and professionals who mentor the students throughout the week.
Dorchester School District Four is proud to announce that five outstanding students from Woodland High School have been selected to represent the district at this year’s events:
Jamie McCarthy – Palmetto Boys State
Dayton Cloer – Palmetto Boys State
Robbie Infinger – Palmetto Boys State
Jordan McCarthy – Palmetto Girls State
Dallas LaChance – Palmetto Girls State
These students were selected based on their leadership potential, strong character, academic performance, and dedication to serving others. Representing Woodland High School and the entire Dorchester Four community, they joined other rising seniors from across South Carolina in an unforgettable week of growth and preparation for their futures as informed, engaged citizens.
Dorchester School District Four congratulates these exceptional students and wishes them the very best as they take part in one of South Carolina’s most honored and influential youth programs.
