The Woodland High School FFA Chapter, under the direction of Markie Leonard, has had a summer to remember, filled with adventure, leadership, and achievement. Students participated in two impactful trips that not only strengthened their skills but also brought home impressive honors for the chapter.

The first trip took nine students to the South Carolina FFA Center in Cherry Grove. Over the course of a week, students took part in a variety of team-building and outdoor activities including kayaking, paintball, archery, high ropes, and zip lining. Their outstanding behavior, kindness, and leadership didn’t go unnoticed—Woodland FFA was named Chapter of the Week. To top off the trip, Woodland clinched the Grand Championship trophy in the final dodgeball tournament, making it back-to-back wins for the program.

Later in the summer, ten Woodland FFA members traveled to Greenville, South Carolina, to join more than 1,300 FFA students from across the state at the South Carolina State FFA Convention. The event featured leadership workshops, competitions, and networking opportunities for the next generation of agricultural leaders.

Among the highlights, Woodland student Ryan Seunandan was selected to serve on the prestigious South Carolina FFA Nominating Committee, a team of eight students from across the state chosen for their exceptional leadership. Ryan also earned Bronze in the Upper Creed Speaking competition, showcasing his public speaking skills and FFA knowledge.

Additionally, Woodland students competed in events including the Greenhand Knowledge Bowl, Agricultural Education, and Upper Creed Speaking. Marilynn Riley placed in the Top 10 statewide in Agricultural Education, a strong finish in a competitive field.

With honors, trophies, and valuable leadership experiences under their belt, Woodland High’s FFA chapter, guided by Markie Leonard, is setting the bar high as they head into the new school year.
