FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ST. GEORGE, S.C. - August 13, 2026

Dorchester School District Four recognizes that a number of parents and community members have expressed serious concerns regarding a recent classroom situation at one of our elementary schools.

We want our parents and community to know that we hear you, we respect your concerns, and we take them seriously.

While respecting your rights to express your opinion regarding matters in the District, the District is also legally obligated to respect the rights of employees of the District, including their right to have their individual employment matters be treated confidentially.  The District and school administration have and will continue to work with families who have expressed concerns to us to explore possible options.

That confidentiality should not, however, be interpreted as a lack of concern or a refusal to listen.

The District takes very seriously its responsibility to ensure that all of our classrooms remain appropriate learning environments for children and that all employees conduct themselves in accordance with district policies, professional expectations, curriculum requirements, and applicable state and federal law.

When concerns are brought to the District regarding communications or conduct involving students, those concerns will be reviewed through the appropriate administrative and legal processes.

Our responsibility is first and foremost to the students entrusted to us by their parents. We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, age-appropriate educational environment in which children can learn without being placed in the middle of adult issues or controversies.

We also recognize the important role parents play in their children’s education. The District respects that students and families come from diverse backgrounds and hold a wide range of values and beliefs. We believe those differences can be respected without requiring students to compromise their beliefs.

The District will not discuss or debate an individual employee’s personal circumstances on social media or through public statements.  We will, however, continue to evaluate whether our policies and practices are being followed and whether additional guidance is needed to ensure that our schools remain focused on the educational, developmental, and academic needs of our students.

We ask our community to allow the District to follow the proper process, respect the privacy rights of everyone involved, and keep our focus where it belongs – on our children and their education. We encourage parents to bring concerns directly to the school and District through the appropriate channels so that those concerns can be heard, documented, and addressed appropriately.

Dorchester School District Four remains committed to transparency to the extent legally permissible and consistent with the rights of our staff, students and their families.
